Wonderful Joel, agreeing to take a walk with me downtown where every thing is in blossom.
This morning, I awakened early and sat with Clay over a cup of tea and catching up in my new blue robe he got for me. (I love robes that don’t have any stains or scars from cooking on them yet, don’t you?”
Then off with Sarah to our downtown French cafe where we have met on Saturdays for about 8 years. Oh, how my soul is filled whenever we are together, as we have a similar personality and similar ideals and dreams and so we talk and talk and talk.
This morning we had quiche and wholewheat walnut rolls with strawberry jam. Yumm!
We love local joints and local people. So we loved seeing Jeremy, our friend who works at the cafe and had a “Welcome home! How was you trip?”
That’s the thing about local places–you can get to know people.
Then off to our walk amongst the old houses, where the trees on the street meet in the middle to make a gallery of green to walk under.
Finally, a stop at a store and a spiced chai tea from Agia Sophia to take home as we sipped in the car.
Now, home to read in quiet, a luxury in my home.
A text message to Joy, who is in Dallas at a speech tournament with friends, to remind her to eat to keep her blood sugar up.
I got a text back from her friend that said, “Mrs. Clarkson, this is Tess. I am force feeding Joy. She will be rosy and round when she gets home.”
Off to visit a friend for a cup of tea this afternoon, and then Sarah and I and 3 other very close friends are off for a rare, “Girl’s night” in Denver, where one of my friends is hosting a candle-light tea and giving a lecture on art pieces in London and Europe.
How nice to be home and what fun to have a day just hanging around with my sweet family and friends.
Oh, my! I just noticed how often I mentioned tea and eating–a pleasure to make life more delightful, no?
Have a lovely weekend–and btw, what are you doing?

That’s funny, I text Christopher quite often asking if he has eaten (he does not like food first thing in the morning) but especially now.
He has been on antibiotics and steroids for allergies this past week and he HAS to eat.
A candlelight tea party sounds lovely.
I think of you so often, sweet Brenda. How fun to have a wedding–seems like you and Steph to kill yourself cooking and making wonderful things. Wish I could help. Hoping you are both doing well. Not on line much lately as I am still catching up with life, but love it when I see you here. Have a blessed weekend.
Mmmmm. I love Saturday with the family! Thanks for the reminder to just drink it all in and enjoy the local folks, too.
Bless you this weekend.
I am enjoying a rare Saturday. My sweet Army man got up at 5am this morning to go to a training exercise with ROTC Cadets. All three of my little men work up and asked if they could go. Dad said, “Yes.” They quickly put on their amry gear and headed out the door…now on school mornings why don’t I get this response???
I slept in until 9:00!! It was blissful. I awoke to a mostly clean house. Time to have a long quiet time with the Lord. Sweet. I then entered the kitchen and made myself a blueberry bagel, fruit, and OJ. My mother-in-law and I enjoyed a peaceful breakfast. I had time to enjoy Ann Voskamps blog with things to enjoy for the weekend. I took her advice and went outside to stand in my “field”. God delighted me with birds. They were all over our back yard. Flying close to me, standing still for me to get a good look and singing, singing. I stood contentedly looking at my list of things to do today and found I had time to help my MIL with a project she needed done.
My sweet family is on their way home and I have stuffed shells baking in the oven. The table is set and the mommy is filled, ready to love lavishly.
Hugs to you Sweet Sally
Forgot to mention we are headed to a goodbye party for our family tonight, where the hostess has told me not to bring anything.
Thank you Father for This Good Day.
Sounds like you are off to such a happy little weekend! I just walked with the kids around our downtown. . .stopping at an outside art display at our local college where I am an alumni. Pancakes, birthday party, and a first communion celebration tomorrow, Blessed by the beautiful weather and happy to be home for now: )
Over due yard work for the hubby and I, laundry and watching my daughter play her DII college softball games via video from Denton, Texas and we are in Southern California. Just got back from Texas and visit with my daughter for a 1 wk. Have a nice day! Game time!
My church had a women’s retreat last night so this morning was spent sipping tea/coffee and eating bagels and fruit on the a beautiful veranda while watching my baby girl (I am nursing so she came along) play with her toys. Lovely time of fellowship!
My husband has just started a new job so he’s actually home on the weekends, and by dinner most nights. So this morning, I made breakfast cookies (in my robe, which is getting kind of dingy. I’ve had it since high school, and I”m turning 30 this year. A Mother’s Day gift, perhaps?), and then we got dressed and went to lunch at our local health food store which was having a fair. And home for the baby to nap, and soon off for a family mini golf game. It sure is nice to spend the day with family.
Thank you for sharing such a delightful post. I was right there with you, nearly in heaven!
Tea and food are always good.
Beautiful! I love the beauty of days like that! It would have to be iced tea here…although I do have a nice cuppa early early in the morning before it gets too humid!
Thank you for sharing the beauty!
That sounds wonderful, Sally! With a baby in the house, I forget what those kinds of days can be like. I know they will happen again. Sooner than later, I know!
love, LOVE your Saturday morning meetings at a French cafe for the past 8 years. I’d love to join you. and just talking about stains on robes from cooking makes me want a Summer robe for Saturday morning cooking. happy weekend!
Sounds like a very sweet day
Sally, can you tell us non tea drinkers how you make your tea? Being from the south, and still living here, sweet tea is our specialty, not hot tea
But I would like to know how! Thanks!
I don’t know how Sally makes her tea, but I like to use loose tea leaves. I warm my teapot by adding some hot water, swirling it around, and pouring it out. I add the tea leaves, around 1 tsp per cup plus an extra tsp for the pot! I add the hot water and let it steep for a few minutes. The amount of steeping time will depend on the tea and the size of leaves. Pour through a strainer and serve however you like it, preferably in a favorite teacup or mug!
Sounds like the perfect day! Mine was a great one too. We threw a very small bbq at a community garden that we are helping start and this evening we went for one of our favorite walks in the neighborhood with our 2 boys. They know where all the friendly animals are, so we do our rounds petting a dog here and cat there, whilst hoping we tire them out and get a great nights sleep! This is all fueled by cups of PG Tips thru out the day – and prayer!
what a lovely saturday. my friend heard Joy in the finals at the debate tourn….so fun for them. we are painting the house this weekend….lots of eating and sweet tea!
LOVED hearing Joy at the tournament! She and her Duo partner did a great job! Another sweet blessing to your family to have such a vibrant, outgoing young lady!
Happy Monday, Sweet Sally!
I need to be reminded often to take days to do nothing but be together. I get pretty obsessed with a clean house every day that I spend even my weekends re-picking up. Those things can wait! I’m reevaluating my day and chosing my family today – not the clutter.
Thanks for the picture you painted with your words of your day yesterday. I live nearby, so I know all of where you were. Enjoy your Sunday!
I loved experiencing your beautiful day vicariously as I read this post! And yes, sipping tea (and coffee and other flavored beverages – hot or cold) add such a nice dimension to everything in life. (Although I do get somewhat obsessed with flavored beverages, which is why God often calls me to fast from them — to remind me that HE can bring an even NICER dimension to everything in life.
)
I slept in a little until about 8 yesterday (this is now Sunday). Then I had some reading I needed to catch up on. My sons got to play extra computer games and our oldest played the Wii. He only gets to play it on Saturdays so he loves this treat. It was nice to have no plans or commitments. My children are still small and I enjoy them, but when I see some of the things you have done and do now with your older ones I see that not only is it great to spend time with them now there are so many wonderful days to come.
Tea, eating, good company, trees in bloom, and art. That all sounds lovely to me!
It’s a busy weekend here. Yesterday was get things done day. Today I started out the day running a 5k for a good cause, then we headed to church (never been sweaty at church before), lunch with friends and now my husband has informed me that a babysitter is about to arrive and he’s taking me on a birthday date!
LOL. Tea and eating ARE delightful things!
We had a PACKED weekend which is a mixed blessing.
A homeschool field trip, a dentist appointment, a visit with friends, grocery shopping, making a horse birthday cake or two, and TODAY church, and a horsey birthday party tonight for my precious 3 yo Ella!
So fun to hear everyone’s weekends. Love reading all of you here. Have a good week.
