Mentoring Monday Clothing Yourself properly for the Holidays!

The First Thanksgiving, Granger

Look at this sweet mama–while everyone is eating and celebrating, she is attending to her children–

and they are so very blessed because they had a mama who loved them and prepared herself with a mind and heart

to serve, love and care for them.

Even as we clothe our homes with beauty and decoration, we cook and prepare our favorite tastes and treats to prepare for a family feast, and we have all sorts of expectations building up,

we must also prepare our hearts, yield our expectations to the Lord, and become a facilitator of love, patience, peace and grace in our homes through out all of the moments.

And so, as those who have been chosen of God, holy and beloved, put on a heart of compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience; bearing with one another, and forgiving each other, whoever has a complaint against anyone; just as the Lord forgave you, so also should you.   And beyond all these things put on love, which is the perfect bond of unity.  And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts,

Colossians 3:12-15a

Messes, tiny disasters, upsets are just a natural part of life in a home where there are lots of people and family rollicking around. But the mama who has prepared for all possibilities and has decided ahead of time to manage these moments with grace, light and bringing peace, will have a more joyful and blessed holiday with all of her loved ones. Enjoy your week!

Reading this late Sunday night. Thank you Sally. Thank you for the wisdom and encouragement.

We have a CD in the car with that verse put to music. It gets stuck in your head after a while…”put on love, love, love, love, love.” Just the word I needed.

    Big Hugs,

I second what Dawn says here! I do pray that you have the ministry of Mentoring Monday’s for a loooooong time!!! I need MUCH mentoring!!
It just dawned on me today, after all the wonderful posts of yours I’ve read- I MUST be intentional in my mothering. I make plans for soooo many other things, why do I not plan on, like you said, the one word I want to leave my children with each day or week? It is obvious that MY way has NOT worked!! LOL!! And listening to you today and realizing that you do this and knowing that you’ve shared this many times, it has finally sunk in!! Now… to be about the business of becoming intentional!!!!

Thank you SO very much!! MUST pray MUCH now!!!!

Thank you so much, Sally! I am going to write this verse on an index card to carry with me as I go to a family gathering that will probably be quite stressful. Then I’ll be able to pull it out from time to time to let God’s word minister to me and change my attitude for the good of those around me.
Praying for a very Happy Thanksgiving for you!

Ouch. I just was struggling with some whining attitudes in my children as I finished up some pies. Yikes. Unfortunately, I didn’t do so well. However, after listening to about half of your vlog, I ask the Lord & my kiddos for forgiveness and am determined to be clothed in LOVE the rest of this busy weekend…traveling and extended family. Thank you, Sally, I really needed this, more than you know! :)

Happy Thanksgiving! I’m thankful for you!

Thank you for giving words of wisdom for the older children. I would love to hear your words of wisdom as we try to mentor these children that we have graduated from our home school. I am trying to find the balance. I need to understand how to be a godly mentoring mother to adult children (college-age) and not their teacher giving out assignments. Thank you!

I read this very verse this morning before I watched your video. I’ve been having a stressful and grumpy couple of days and after getting some time in the Word this morning, I feel very encouraged by your post. Thank you for the time you take to prepare and record these. I look forward to them every week.
